Objetives - Develop basic geologic and seismological data critical to the evaluation of seismic hazard and risk in South America. -Prepare interpretative maps of seismic hazard for South America. -Conduct interdisciplinary meetings for geologist, seismologists and engineers to assure that the products of the project will be used for the development of earthquake resistant desing provisions for building codes, for disaster preparedness, mitigation and relief planning and for economics evaluation of the impact of earthquake damage on national and regional ic evaluation of the impact of earthquake damage on national and regional economics. - Improve the seismological instrumental network of stations through better communications, instruments and station locations. Results - The firstunified earthquake catalogue for South America has been completed. - The first seismotectonic map of South america has been completed. - A completely new ground shaking map of South America has been completed. - A prototype seismogrph station with satellite telemetry has been developed (AU).
